A sewing project begins with finding inspiration, sketching a design, obtaining fabric, finding supplies and a space to sew. Basic sewing supplies are essential to the process.
My 8 basic sewing supplies are below:
- Sewing Scissors – A great pair of sewing scissors to cut through a variety of material with ease. A few great examples to get you started are large handle scissors, embroidery scissors to cut the loose threads and pinking shears.
- Thread – Probably the most important. The thread binds the fabric together.
- Bobbins – Coordinate with the thread color.
- Pins – Hold the pattern in place on the fabric. They also hold fabric together with matching edges, making it easier to feed through your sewing machine.
- Measuring Tape – Adding or Subtracting a little length or width to your garment.
- Hand Needle – Are used to close a small hole on a project. An entire project can also be hand sewn
- Chalk or Pencils – Great tracing or sketching tools. Tracing a pattern on fabric might be helpful when cutting out the exact shape of the pattern
- Seam Ripper – Mistakes happen!! At times we need to take out stitches in order to correct seams.
What are your top sewing supplies? Which sewing supplies do you use most?
Love & Blessings,
