Have you ever walked into a bakery filled with all of your favorite desserts and you can smell the aromas of all the sweet ingredients mixed together? Well, that is how I feel when I arrive at a large fabric store and my senses begin to jump. Sometimes, I do not know where to begin in the store, the silk, cotton, lace or prints. For those that have had the opportunity to visit or seen the store on TV, then they know that Mood Fabric Store is a treasure flowing with a lot of beautiful designer fabric, silk, chiffon, linings and much more.
I love mood fabrics because you can find almost anything your heart desires, like woven material, colorful fabrics, designer and moderately priced items. You literally need a few hours to fumble through all of the fabrics and textures. A shopper can spend an hour searching for the perfect silk print for a dress they are designing.
My journey around Mood Fabrics NYC began taking an old fashion elevator to the fourth floor, and stepping into a deco art style walkway before entering the magical fabric store. I am greeted by Swatch the quiet, cool store dog, then browse through the beautiful dainty lace and crochet material. Onto, peruse the silks, cotton, denim and much more. I literally spent hours at Mood fabrics selecting the right fabrics for my next sewing project.
It is a good idea to approach your visit to the fabric store with a plan of action, ideas, and sample sketches and pattern.
While shopping for material keep in mind:

Designers, Seamstresses and Tailors can work with a variety of fabrics. Many fabrics that complement one another well and are easy to sew on the machine; while others are more of a challenge. Diverse fabrics fit the body shape differently and the material flow may vary on the body.
