Prepping for prom and wedding season ladies are trying to find the perfect dress of the occasion. A few months ago I attended a friend’s wedding and was wondering what I can wear and how to dress appropriately for the event. As a seamstress and creative, I love to sew and design clothing that I wear when I attend special events. Having that unique piece of clothing ensures that no one at the event will have the same outfit and your clothing often becomes a conversation starter.
I chose to sew a dress using a vintage Butterick pattern with a pique fabric and cotton lining which harmonized. Intermediate level sewers are best for this sewing project. I altered the neck of the dress, so it was just one small slit on the top middle of the bodice to for a V shape. Next, I sewed the lining to the piqued fabric, so the fabric would not slide. Then I pieced together and sewed the dress together. The dress takes about six to eight hours to sew.
To date, my Butterick vintage style dress is one of my favorite dresses to wear to a special event. It fits comfortably and I love the color. I styled my dress with a simple pair of neutral pumps and minimal jewelry. The dress is a statement piece and does not need extra accessories. The fabric has a beautiful texture and design.
