Circle Skirt Motion

Iconic Circle skirt became a phenomenon around the 1950’s!  Teens and women made a fashion statement wearing full circular skirts with applique patterns.  The ladies often sewed their skirts in home economics classes.  In the 1950’s circle skirts were known as poodle skirts.  Ladies would sew using wool fabric and add embroidery and applique designs.  The poodle skirt was a very cute and fun fashion statement.

Today, circle skirts remain a classic for ladies fashion.  This skirt requires wide fabric, a couple yards and can be sewn easily.  I used a McCalls pattern, which has a basic circular skirt with a tie waistband.  The skirt works well with any choice of fabric to sew, such as cotton, rayon silk or your choice of lightweight flowy materials.

Go ahead, have fun and take a twirl !

I love reading books about fashion, style and autobiographies about individuals that inspire me and learning about their journey.  A great book can take you on an adventure around the world and expose the reader to new people and places.
